What is arteriography:
Arteriography is a common medical procedure in which x-rays and a special dye is use to see inside the arteries. Doctor will use called contrast material and X-rays to view arteries in the heart, brain, kidney, and other parts of the body. It is also known as arteriography or angiography. X-ray beam is passed through the body part and is transmitted to a monitor to see in detail. A dye is injected into an artery to make X-ray clear
Why it is done:
- This test is useful to see the arteries of heart, brain, kidneys
- This will help to detect hemorrhage, blockage, inflammation of arteries
- This test is use to find reason of narrowing of blood vessels
- This test is used to determine tumor in brain or in kidney
- Check for abnormal connection between the arteries and veins
- Use to identify blood clot within arteries
- This test evaluate heart problem, kidney problem, brain problem
Preparations for test:
- Preparations are depends on which body part is being examine
- Do not eat solid food before the exam
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or might be pregnant
- Tell your doctor if you are taking any medicines
- If you are suffering from diabetes and you are taking insulin then tell your doctor
- Tell your doctor if you have any allergy from iodine substance
How it is done:
- The procedure depends on which body part is being examine
- Patient will be connected to an electrocardiogram monitor that records the electrical activity of the heart during the procedure using small electrode patches
- Then doctor will insert a catheter into a artery, mostly in your leg
- Once the catheter is in place, an injection of contrast dye will be given into the catheter. You may feeling warm during this procedure
- Then multiple X–rays are taken from arteries
- When images have been obtain, doctor will be remove the catheter
- Pressure will be applied over the area to stop bleeding from artery and apply bandage over there
